Summer Festivals

Summertime in Europe is not only about touring historical cities and sipping coffee in beautiful plazas, it’s also about music! And no other country or city for that matter offers more opportunities to see great acts like Barcelona.

The city along the sea is notorious for holding epic outdoor shows - the most famous being the Sonar festival in mid-June. However, if you are looking for something a bit grittier and underground – than don´t miss the Primavera Sound Festival (usually at the end of May/start June annually). The festival tends to lean towards more grungy rock acts than the standard DJ sets that are so often found in Europe.

In recent year's, big names have included the Smashing Pumpkins, The White Stripes, Wilco and Modest Mouse. On tap this year: Dinosaur Jr., Portishead, Public Enemy, De la Soul and dozens more. Parc Forum was completed a few years ago and designed to hold large events like the Primavera. The space incorporates several different areas along the water that serve as individual amphitheatres. The backdrop is stunning and makes the experience that much more unique.

If this is of interest be sure to check out the Primaverasound Festival website for more details. You can also find good quality  places to stay in the Raval area of the city, if you plan to stay in the centre of Barcelona during your stay.
